Officer in Charge, LCDR Gilbert Espinosa

Lieutenant Commander Gilbert C. Espinosa is a native of Fort Worth, Texas, and enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves in October 2003.  Following recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 59 (VR-59) as an Aviation Electronics Technician.  In September 2006, he graduated from the Aviation Enlisted Aircrew Training School and earned his Naval Aircrewman designation for the C-40A Clipper platform.  

He was selected into the Nuclear Power Officer Candidate (NUPOC) program and began his officer commission as a Nuclear Physics and Nuclear Reactor Dynamics Instructor at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC) in Goose Creek, South Carolina.  

Lieutenant Commander Espinosa laterally transferred to the Aerospace Maintenance Duty Officer (AMDO) community in January 2014.  He reported to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 7 (HSC-7) in Norfolk, Virginia serving as the Material Control Officer (MCO), Detachment Maintenance Officer (DETMO), and the Maintenance/Material Control Officer (MMCO) deployed aboard USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.

In February 2017, Lieutenant Commander Espinosa reported to Fleet Readiness Center Southeast Detachment Jacksonville, Florida serving as Quality Assurance Officer (QAO), Command Safety Officer, AIRSpeed Officer, and the Aviation Life Support Systems Division Officer.

In June 2019, he reported to Patrol Squadron 45 (VP-45) serving as the Assistant Maintenance Officer (AMO) and completing two deployments to Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan supporting P-8A Poseidon missions for CPRW-11, CTF-72, and U.S. Seventh Fleet operations.

Lieutenant Commander Espinosa is currently serving as the Officer In Charge of Fleet Readiness Center Southeast Detachment Mayport, Florida.

He has earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington, and a Master of Science Degree in Statistical Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School where he received the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory Award for Excellence in Statistical Analysis.  His military achievements include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign decorations.

Lieutenant Commander Espinosa is married to the former Cynthia Maria Urrutia, and are the proud parents of three children, AC2 Adrian Espinosa, Ariel Espinosa, and Gabrian Espinosa.
