Executive Officer, Captain Michael Freas

Captain, Michael Freas, a native of Howard County, Maryland, enlisted as an Aviation Machinist Mate in October 1992 and comissioned via Officer Candidate School in 2004. He designated as an aerospace maintenance duty officer (AMDO) in 2005, and in 2017, was designated an Acquisition Corps member. He graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University World Wide Campus where he received his Master of Science in Aviation Maintenance Management.

At sea, he served as maintenance material control officer (MMCO) and assistant maintenance officer (AMO) for Patrol Squadron Four (VP) 4; Global War on Terror support assignment (GSA) at European Command; aircraft intermediate maintenance department MMCO and AMO aboard USS George Washington (CVN 73); and maintenance officer aboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68) in support of Operations Enduring Freedom deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet and U.S. 7th Fleet areas of operations.

Freas’s acquisition tours include deputy program manager, Logistics, Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment Program Office (PMA) 251.
 
His shore tours include MMCO and AMO for Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 41; support equipment/avionics division officer/MMCO for Fleet Readiness Center Oceana Virginia; shore readiness officer for Commander, Surface Force Atlantic; AMDO detailer in Millington Tennesse.
 
Freas assumed the role of executive officer of Fleet Readiness Center Southeast in April 2025.
 
He earned his Professional Aviation Maintenance Officer Wings and has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (eight awards), and the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards).
